Flu, Flood, Training, Baptism and Birthday!

It's been a crazy week or 2.  This past weekend we went to St. James, MN to my sister's for my niece's baptism.  We came back with the flu! :(  They had it last week and decided to pass it on to us.  Monday I had it, Hayden woke up in the middle of the night on Monday and now Jason has it.  So hopefully by tomorrow everything will be ok.  It doesn't last long just is not fun in the process.  It is truly amazing how much more resilient kids are compared to us...(graphic info ahead...) I started throwing up on Monday at 4:30pm and continued until about 9:30pm.  and Hayden woke up at at 2:30am threw up and I brought him to bed with me and let him lay and watch a little Elmo while we were getting settled and I gave him some Gatorade.  He was laughing and screaming about Elmo and the next day he was just fine.  I on the other hand took another good 12 hours to feel back to normal.  It's just crazy to me!
Other than catching the flu...baptism was very good and lots of fun to see John and Sara (oh and their parents:).  Hayden woke up in the middle of the night on Saturday and kept yelling "Johnny, Johnny!"  He loves playing with his cousin.  They get a long so well.  I forgot my camera at home (I KNOW, I KNOW!)  So I will have to post until I get them from my sister.
Training for the 10k has been going well and I was on track until yesterday.  I even ran 1 1/4 miles on Monday right before my first trip to the porcelain thrown! :)  So I am hoping to make the rest up this week.
And as you all know Flood Fight 2010 is in full swing.  They seem to think it's not going to be as bad here in Lisbon as last year.  We are hoping and praying that it's true.
Last update is...my birthday.  It is tomorrow.  Another year older, another year wiser.  I am thinking this is going to be a great year.  Not quite sure why I think that...just do! :)  Jason and I have a babysitter lined up for Saturday and we are going to Fargo for the afternoon to do some errands and then he is taking me out to eat at my absolute favorite restaurant, Stella's.  I already got my gift...which was something I have wanted for a long time.  He got me a Cricut (well, I got it for myself and we both said it could be my birthday gift!)  I am so excited to start using it for my scrapbooking and card making. I'll start posting some of my creations soon!
Happy St. Patty's Day everyone!!

Goals

Goals?  You ask?  Yes, that has been on my mind a lot lately.  After I lost my job (it was a year this month since I lost my job at Hospice of the Red River Valley) I kind of went into a downward spin.  I thought I was depressed from the loss of my job and didn't quite know what my purpose in life was (I now know, I have several purposes -being a good mom, wife, friend, daughter, sister, employee and most imporantly - Child of God!).  This past summer I had my yearly physical and was talking to my nurse practioner about it but also mentioned to her my family history of thyroid disease.  After having blood work done, ultrasounds, etc.  I found out that I have hypothryroidism.  It's genetic and easily managed by a small inexpensive pill every morning.  Since getting this under control I have found energy I had forgotten I once had.  I went from napping 1-2 times per day, not doing much and going to bed at 9pm to not napping at all, working 2 part-time jobs and caring for our house and son and going to bed at around 11pm or midnight.  Most days I don't think there are enough hours.  But....I still felt like something was missing....so here is where my goals come into play.  I have been walking/running for the past couple of months here and there.  I started out good, drifted, came back...you know how it goes.  So today is the day!! :)  And I am declaring it on my blog so that I am held accountable.  I am signing up for a 10k in May and I started my first day of training today with a 1.5 mile run/walk...I just finished and I feel great.  It's amazing how even that short amount can just lift up your spirits.  2 people particularly have motivated me to do it...1 being a good friend of mine, Gina.  She is a marathoner and is training to try out for the olympic trials.  CRAZY - I know.  Yesterday she ran a half-marathon in Orlando and out of 13,000 she placed 4th!!  1st for women!  I am very proud of her and admire her dedication.  She has been a huge strength and motivation for me.  The other women is an old friend, Lisa, that has trained for marathons and documents her training through her blog here.  The reason she motivates me is because she is busy with a demanding job and all of lifes other distractions she is still able to take the time for herself to do this.  So, I hope to keep you all updated and I know that this is another tool that will keep me motivated.  Stay tuned...

Enough about me....here are some recent pictures of Hayden...

We have been working on a few DIY projects in our home.  We started out in January with updating our office.  We had a small desk and file cabinet and that was about it.  I wanted to make a bigger desk so that I could also move all of my scrapbooking stuff in there.  So I pained the walls, pained the cabinets and file cabinet and did some shopping.  Jason did the installation - it's pretty much done, just don't have a picture to share yet...I'll get on that! :)  Below is a picture of Hayden popping his head out of one of the cabinets when they were waiting to be installed.

Hayden has found the piano...maybe he will become a professional pianist (I can hope!)
